Everest Base Camp Trekking Via Jiri Route

The route to Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek goes from Kathmandu to Bhandar via Jiri. Similarly, it continues to go through Sete-Junibesi-Nunthala-Bupsa-Surke and Phakding. For the first week, visitors will trek only in the lower part of the Everest region. Next from Phakding, the route follows, Namche Bazaar-Tengboche-Dingboche-Lobuche-Gorakshep-EBC and Kala Patthar.

Itinerary

The day you land in Kathmandu will be the beginning of a new adventure. Our staff will be there at the airport to pick you up in a private vehicle. According to your arrival time, you can just stroll around Thamel for the rest of the day.

This day, after having breakfast, there will be a tea meeting in the office for the preparation of the trek. In the end, if some hours left after the meeting, you can visit famous cultural heritage. Starting the day early, you will drive through Araniko Highway to Bhandar. During the drive through the towns of Banepa and Dhulikhel, embrace yourself with the panoramic views of the mountains. The walking journey begins today from Bhandar to EBC. You will descend to Linkhu Khola first cross the river and head to Kenja. The trek continues through the terrace farmlands and farmhouses. Overnight stay at Sete.

Today is going to be a little challenging day. The trek begins with a gradual climb up through the Lamjura Pass (3530m), the highest point between Jiri and Namche. After that, the trail goes down through the rhododendron forest and arrives at Taktor. Heading to the north of the valley, you will descend to the village of Junibesi to stay overnight.

The day starts with a warm breakfast and begins to walk crossing the Junibesi river. After crossing the bridge, the route follows the left-hand trail and takes you to the Sailung. Moreover, the trek continues ascending to Ringmo and Tak-Shindo passes. Next, crossing through many beautiful streams, you will reach Nunthala.

From Bupsa, you will trek down to Dudh Koshi River and cross it to follow the route of the other side. You will cross through the villages and terrace fields occasionally. Next, the route descends through the forests and takes you to the river. Following the river for some time, you will ascend through the village. Moreover, along the journey, you pass the village of Khari Khola, and climbing a steep hill takes you to Bupsa. Overnight stay at Bupsa.

The trail moves ahead rising through the forest and passing Kharte you will climb uphill to reach Khari La Pass. You will see beautiful views of Khumbila and Gyaching Kang from the Khari La Pass. Next, from the pass, trek down to Puiyan and move ahead to Surke through several ups and downs. Overnight stay at Surke.

Leaving Surke, the trail leads you to Chaurikharka offering a beautiful waterfall with a spectacular gorge. Next, climbing up to Chhiplung, you will descend to Phakding for an overnight stay.

Following breakfast, we will start to walk following the route of the Dudh Koshi River and cross it several times. Reaching Monjo, we enter Sagarmatha National Park. On this particular day, you will rest at Namche to adapt your body to the high altitude. You can hike up to the ridges of the Namche Bazaar and enjoy the views from the top. Just like the previous day, the trek continues through the Dudh Koshi River with spectacular views of mountains. A few ups and downs await us during the trek. Likewise, you may see wildlife like musk deer, Himalayan Thar, and Pheasant along the way. Next, the track follows the Pine forests and arrives at Phunki Thenga for Lunch. After having Lunch, climbing a tough trail takes us to Tengboche village.

Today in the start, we will cross an exciting suspension bridge over Imja Khola and then ascend to Pangboche. You can see many mani stones as you slowly approach Pangboche. Likewise, many prayer flags, chortens, and mani walls are beautifully decorated on the trail. Approaching Dingboche, admire the views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. Overnight stay at Dingboche.

We start our trek after a delicious breakfast and head north for an hour until we reach Mani-prayer stupa. Then, the trail somewhat becomes pleasant offering the views of Pheriche village. Trek continues to Dughla admiring the views of Ama Dablam, Pkalde, Kongama Tse, and Nuptse. The uphill walk continues until we reach Lobuche to stay overnight.

At the beginning part of the day, the trail follows the rocky moraine offering the views of glacial ponds and icebergs just below the Khumbu Glacier. The trail continues through the rocky section and brings you to the Gorakshep for lunch. After having Lunch, you will put your baggage in the tea house and start to hike to Everest Base Camp. Reaching the Base Camp is a dream come true for many travelers around the world. Capturing some moments of magic at base camp, you will return to Gorakshep for an overnight stay.

This day is quite a long day but worth it. You will start early in the morning to catch up on the sunrise view from Kala Patthar. We advise you to mentally prepare for this long day but the views you will see from the top take your tiredness away. Kala Pathhar is also the highest point of the trek which offers golden rays of sun at Mt. Everest, and other surrounding peaks. After witnessing the superb views from the top, you will descend to Gorakshep and head to Pheriche

The entire journey ends today with the last trek from Namche to Lukla. As we start to walk from Namche, the trail is gentle while going down. However, there are a few short uphill climbs.     Good to Know

    Accommodation during the trek

    Accommodation during the entire trek is in the best available teahouses on a sharing basis. Until Namche Bazaar, you will get accommodation with a toilet inside the room. However, after Dingboche, every teahouse has a common toilet outside the room. Likewise, in some parts of the trek, you may have to share the common room with other trekkers during the peak trekking season. Every accommodation provides you with a basic bed along with warm blankets and pillows. However, we suggest you bring a sleeping bag if you can.

    Meals during the Trek

    You can choose several restaurants in Kathmandu with different items. During the trek, you will get a menu that is set by the Everest region which is a fixed menu. You will have Dinner and Breakfast in the teahouse you will stay. However, lunch is on the way at the best possible restaurant.

    Drinking water

    Along the journey to Everest Base Camp, you can find mineral water bottles or filter water from the teahouse. However, it is quite costly as you trek the Everest Region's higher altitudes. If you have a water purification tablet then tap water is also an option. But, rarely we find trekkers using tap water.

    Transportation during the Jiri to EBC Trek

    Generally, EBC Trek starts from Lukla. However, EBC Trek via Jiri begins from Jiri itself, which is 9-10 hours drive from Kathmandu. To reach Jiri, you will take a Jeep ride from Kathmandu. Similarly, while returning from EBC, you will take a direct flight from Lukla to Kathmandu.
