Undoubtedly, the Champadevi day hike is the most popular hiking destination in Kathmandu Valley. This hike leads you to the sacred Hindu site Champadevi temple, elevated at 2285 m, in the southwest of the valley.

Champadevi hiking trail is just a 20km drive to Hattiban, where you’ll start your hike through the well-managed trail inside a green lush pine forest. Along the trail, you can spot the various species of birds and wildlife, enhancing the beauty of the journey.

This scenic day hike near Kathmandu Valley offers awe-inspiring views of the Valley and breathtaking landscapes at every turn. On clear weather days, you’ll be rewarded with magnificent vistas of the World's Highest Mt Everest, and other Himalayan peaks like Dorje Lakpa, Gauri Shankar, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, etc.

Starting Point and Ending Point of Champadevi Hiking

This one-day Hiking from Kathmandu to Champadevi begins and ends at Kathmandu. The starting point is located just a few kilometers away from Kathmandu.

Mountain Eco Trails Pvt. Ltd. provides a vehicle facility to reach the starting point of this day hike to Champadevi. After the hiking, your hiking guide will bring you to the trailhead to catch the vehicle and return to Kathmandu.

Champadevi day hike begins at Hattiban Resort from where you’ll start ascending along the well-managed trail inside the green lush forest. The trail leads to Champadevi Temple, offering a peaceful and scenic journey. After reaching the temple, the trail follows and descends towards Bhundole ground, eventually leading you to Pharping where your private jeep will await your return.

Itinerary

After an early breakfast, the Champadevi hike begins with a scenic 30-minute drive to the starting point of Hattiban Resort. From there you’ll start your actual hike ascending along the well-managed trail inside the lush green forest decorated with Buddhist prayer flags. The trail leads you to the sacred Champadevi Temple, where you can take a lunch break and appreciate the beautiful surroundings.

Following your meal, the trail ascent to Bhundole Ground, a popular local camping spot. After enjoying the views and snapping some photos at Bhundole, you'll head to Pharping, where a jeep will be waiting for you.

Things to wear during the one-day hike from Kathmandu

Hikers don’t have to wear too many clothes during this Champadevi Hike. A full or half-sleeved T-shirt and hiking shorts are enough for this hiking. However, do not forget to bring rainwear with you if you are hiking in the monsoon season. Moreover, good hiking shoes are recommended.

What to carry during the Champadevi Hiking?

Champadevi Hiking is a long day trip. Since there are no shops or hotels along the trail, you must carry the necessary things with you like snacks, water bottles (Thermos), chocolate bars, and personal belongings with you. Also, a small first-aid kit with you would be beneficial in case of some emergencies.

  • The hike is considered to be of moderate difficulty. It involves some steep ascents but is manageable for people with a reasonable fitness level.

  • The best time to hike is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. The weather is generally clear, and the views of the mountains are spectacular.

  • There are a few rest spots along the trail but no shops or water taps. So, it is advisable to bring your snacks and water

  • Wear comfortable hiking shoes and layered clothing, as the weather can change quickly. Bring water, light snacks, a hat, sunscreen, and a camera.
