    Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is crucial for the ABC Trek for safety reasons. It is necessary for you in case of emergencies like helicopter evacuation, sickness, injuries, lost items, and trip cancellation. You can purchase quality travel insurance easily online. However, ensure that it covers the Helicopter Charter evacuation and other medical bills. We also require a copy of travel insurance when you book the trip.

    Eco Tourism

We, Mountain Eco Trails, strongly follow the responsible and eco-tourism practices during our operation of trekking and tours in Nepal. We advise our trekkers and guides to avoid the use of plastic bottles and manage the waste along the trail to keep nature clean. Likewise, along the trail, we suggest respecting the local people and their families while staying in the teahouses. Greet them with “Namaste,” which is a major sign of respect in Nepalese culture. We always try our best to keep the pathways of the Mountain Trail clean and tidy to preserve the environment.

    Trekking Permit for ABC

The trekking permits for Annapurna Base Camp Treks include the Trekker's Information Management System permit and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project Permit Card. The ACAP permit cards cost USD 25 per person, while the TIMS permit card costs USD 20 per person. Mountain Eco Trails will handle the issuance of these permits. To obtain these permits, we need your passport-sized photos and a copy of your passport.

Trekking Trail Conditions of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek Route

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek route is well-maintained and marked. From the starting point at Jhinu, the pathway ascends to Jhinu and then descends to Sinuwa Village. Again, from Sinuwa Village, you climb up to Upper Sinuwa via stone staircases. The trail conditions are very good until you reach Deurali, passing through Bamboo, Dovan, and the Himalaya Hotel. Beyond Deurali, the trail becomes slightly rugged with rocky terrain. While it’s not as rugged as the Everest Base Camp Trek, it can be challenging. However, overall, the hike to ABC from Macchapuchhre Base Camp is gentle yet tricky due to the high altitude.

Best time to hike to Annapurna Base Camp

The best time to do the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is from March to May and September to December. These months offer favorable weather and stable trekking conditions. Moreover, mild temperatures, clear skies, and sunny days create excellent conditions for the journey. Additionally, the likelihood of rainfall is very low during these months. Furthermore, in October, the atmosphere of festivals makes the journey even more appealing. Thus, these months are the best time to trek in Nepal, including Annapurna Base Camp.

    Meals and Drinking Water

In this Annapurna Base Camp Trek Package, three meals a day are included. You can choose one main course during mealtime from the menu set by the ACAP. The breakfast options include oatmeal, porridge, muesli, pancakes, toast, various egg dishes, potato dishes, and hot drinks. Similarly, lunch and dinner consist of Daal Bhaat, Sherpa Stew, Thukpa, noodles, macaroni, pasta, momo, soup, fried rice, pizza, sandwiches, and more.

For drinking water, you can buy filtered or boiled water to refill your bottle. We recommend using filtered water instead of purchasing bottled mineral water because we promote sustainable tourism and strive to keep the environment clean.

Note: Extra meals or snacks beyond the main course are at your own expense.

    Accommodation Facilities in Annapurna Sanctuary

Accommodation in the Annapurna Sanctuary is typically arranged in teahouses, which are commonly referred to as popular teahouse treks in Nepal. Do not expect luxury facilities in teahouse accommodations. However, teahouses offer basic rooms with twin beds, mattresses, pillows, and blankets. Additionally, they provide charging and internet access, though there is usually an extra charge of around USD 2-3 per person or device. Be sure to carry extra Nepalese currency for any additional expenses.

    Altitude Sickness Along the Trek

There is always a risk of altitude sickness on high-altitude treks, such as ABC. Trekkers may experience symptoms ranging from mild to severe based on their trekking experience. Although the trail is not particularly difficult, the altitude can cause sickness once you ascend above 3,000 meters. Signs of altitude sickness include dizziness, headache, vomiting, sleep disturbances, and loss of appetite. If you experience any of these symptoms, promptly inform your guide and fellow trekkers. Our guides are trained in first aid and know how to handle such situations. To mitigate the risk of illness, be sure to acclimate properly, drink plenty of water, walk slowly, and focus on consuming a balanced diet, including vegetarian meals. If symptoms worsen, descend to a lower altitude as soon as possible.
