Dhampus Village Hike from Pokhara is a short and easy walk to one of the scenic trekking trails of the Annapurna Region. This Dhampus Day Hike is a rewarding trek through the popular Australian Base Camp and Dhampus Village. It lies on the Western side of Pokhara at 1700 meters. A day hike from Pokhara to Dhampus is an excellent way to witness the traditional village of the Gurung People. Likewise, the tranquil environment around the village with beautiful mountains and green landscapes make this hike so special. The Hike begins with a 45-minute drive from Pokhara to Kande. Then from Kande, strolling for 2 hours will take you to Australian Base Camp. This Australian Base Camp is also a popular day hike from Pokhara. From here you can enjoy amazing views of Mt. Fishtail (Macchpuchre). Then from here, the trail descends to Dhampus Village through the forest and small settlements. The Village of Dhampus is wide open offering superb views of Annapurna South, Hiuchuli, Mt. Fishtail, and Annapurna III. Explore around the villages and visit the local school. Then, from here, descending for another 2 hours will reach Phedi. From here, the journey ends with a 30-minute drive back to Pokhara.

The only way to reach Dhampus from Pokhara is by bus or car. Pokhara to Dhampus by Bus can take 2-3 hours. It is because the road up to Dhampus is Bumpy and off-road. However, if you want to avoid Dhampus Hike from Pokhara, you can drive directly by Jeep to reach the village. The guide will reach your hotel in a private vehicle to pick you up and drive to Kande. Driving for 45 minutes will take you to the starting point of the Dhampus Hike. You can also do the Mardi Himal Trek from this point. But you have a short trip today to reach the Australian Base Camp. Walking for 2 hours from Kande through the small settlements will take you ABC for an overnight stay.

Accommodation along the Dhampus Hike

You will stay a night at Australian Base Camp in a locally owned tea house or lodge. These tea houses have all the facilities like internet, attached bathrooms, electricity, and good restaurants as well. However, the bedrooms are very basic but comfortable.

Meals and Drinking Water during the Hike

Meals including breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are provided during the Dhampus Hike. On the first day, your Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner will be at Australian Base Camp. And the next day, you will have a Lunch in Dhampus Village before heading back to Pokhara.

Likewise, drinking water is easy to find in the teahouses you will stay in. We recommend carrying a water bottle with you and getting filtered water from the lodge/teahouses. However, filtered water may cost a little extra charge.
