Spiritual and Cultural Experience in Gosainkunda Lake
After returning from Kyanjin, Langtang to Gosainkunda Lake begins through the Thulo Syabru Beshi. Gosainkunda Lake is a spiritual place for Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. Besides this Gosainkunda Lake, there are several smaller lakes around the area. Based on Hindu Mythology, Gosainkunda Lake was formed by the Hit of Lord Shiva’s Trident. According to the myth, Lord Shiva drank the poison to save the world mined by the evils and demons. In doing so, because of the poison, he was in pain and threw the Trident and hit the rock, from where water started to pour out.
There is a belief that bathing in this lake or drinking its water will wash away your sins. However, Buddhist and Hindu Pilgrims worship this lake differently. Hindu devotees dip on this Lake during the Janai Purnima to eliminate all sins. Whereas, Buddhist people perform dances in August for their relative’s departed soul to rest in peace in heaven. Although the Lake carries religious significance, the natural beauty and landscapes around the Lake are equally rewarding.
